Only available in Polish! Memoirs of Princess Daisy's grandson, Prince Bolko von Pless.
Below is an excerpt from the memoirs written by the president of the Princess Daisy von Pless Foundation, Mateusz Mykytyszyn, entitled "Memoirs of a Silesian prince". The description of the prince's first visit to the ancestral Książ Castle is accompanied by photographs from his personal albums.
"... We visited the castle, in which it was in vain to look for any souvenirs or even ordinary objects that belonged to my family. Elizabeth showed us everything she could. From the outside, it was wonderful, powerful and impressive. it delighted with its majesty. Inside, [Książ] was still dilapidated and almost completely empty. Only the Maximilian Hall was beautiful. Professionals began renovating the remaining rooms on the first floor, even though Poland did not have any money at the time. However, it was famous for its excellent monument restorers, many of whom worked during the rebuilding of Munich's old town. We knew and admired the effects of their work, including at the Residenz, the seat of the Bavarian electors and kings. The first effects of their work in the Maximilian Hall were very good. Our nice guide introduced us to her parents and younger brother Leopold. I had nothing to give her. From Brazil I brought a golden amulet in the shape of a hand called a fig, which is used there to protect against evil forces. Frau Stempowska says that her daughter still has it and treats it like a treasure. It is Mrs. Stempowska and her family that I owe the first warm welcome in the former family home. Fürstenstein was our home from 1509 to 1943. It was significantly enlarged, rebuilt and richly equipped by my grandfather Hans Heinrich XV. He eagerly emphasized his origin from the Silesian Piasts, and I got my name in honor of the Świdnica-Jawor prince, Bolek I the Raw, who built the castle in 1283. There is no other place about which all the Hochbergs who lived then and today can say: "our family nest"
